The reason I chose Tappers 'cause One I'm a hometown kid know its Burgh and also the way that partners are included in the NBA was really important to me, I wanted to make sure she was included with a huge part of my life. An I wanted her to be involved as much as possible, and temper does a lot of great things to incorporate partners into the program.

Right hearing correctly from our students today and will be focusing on the experience of streams with partners and Families, as I mentioned and I'm joined today by several MBA students in a partner who are excited to share their experiences and answer your questions so today. We're going to cover some topics, including your decision. Factors to come to temper your career attorneys. The clubs at pepper and corresponding my favorite maybe Max favorite section talking about Pittsburgh. So we have some topics to get us started but we'll do our best to get to as many of your questions.
Alright so as I mentioned I'm joined by some students here today in a partner and one of them introduced themselves a little bit about who they were before they came to temper what they're doing here and then maybe if they have a direction for after supper can share that as well. But less and then it turn things over to you if you'd like to start and share a little bit about who you are thank you. I'm W Brown. I'm a second year full time MBA student. I came here after 12 years in the army.
I started a family about 40 years before matriculate ING here went through the full admissions process for full time or part time thanks to my employer. I was not able to attend school for about a year. So I could talk about the whole experience was replying and going through all of that, too also along with Derek here and discuss the process of integrating a family moving to Petsburgh as a unit.
Looking for schools and daycare and all that other stuff.
All right Brian if you would be so kind of introduced herself.
Sure, thanks, Jesse Flames, Brian be logged on Miami first year students in the part time online hybrid program.
And then I currently work full-time go to school part time and I'm also taking care of our brand new daughter, Isabella, who's about 2 months old at this point, so I'm happy to answer any questions anyone. We have about managing demands of work family in school at the same time.
Alright, thank you. Brian hectare alright. Hey my name is Derek Flake. I'm a full time student second year I moved here to petsburgh with my wife and 2 kids. We had a third kid a mini 3 of last year. No earlier this year. Sorry party track, but yeah, in case you're wondering if it's possible to have 3 kids and get an MBA. It is not always recommended guess it depends on your comfort with stress but.
Uhm I I come from a small business entrepreneurial background and heading into back into the manufacturing world, so excited excited to be here share my experiences.
Yeah, my name's Matt Griffin. I'm a first year in the full time program. My background is in consulting in one form or another. But the internal and external. I'm originally from Pittsburgh. So if you have any Pittsburgh questions. Feel free to shoot 'em at Main Yeah. I'm really excited to talk about temper integrates partners into the program because that's one of the main reasons, I chose it.
Andre I run undress michella sucking your full time. MBA student prior to temper I was electrical engineer working for the oil and gas industry, this summer. I interned at equal app in the global finance supply chain team realized that finance was not my love over the summer so looking into recruiting in general management roles and I actually moved to Pittsburgh with my wife. Cynthia so she's been a great supporter throughout the journey from selecting the schools, all the way to the forum in today and.
Continue being a great supporter to see where we're going to land after MBA school.
Uhm Hawaii my name is Cynthia Mitchell, an I am a second year partner. I do work from home, so for me. It was very important to find a school that included the partners and that is one of the reasons why we chose temper also I have been involved in the temper partners club and have seen how they help partners relocate as far as finding a job as well with housing and different events.
And I'm here to answer any questions regarding partners and anything of that nature so we have a great group here. Thank you again. All of you for volunteering your time to Share your story here experience with our attendees today.
And then the transition in topic out the intersection of business and technology. It's a dramatic transformation of business due to these exponential leaps in technology that we've seen thinking about driverless cars. Apple Pay Bitcoin and the amount of data that's being produced from this. It's just increased massively. There's no denying that the landscape of businesses change and there's one thing that is certain is going to continue to do so and the temper schools uniquely positioned to take advantage of this opportunity.
Winter seems to lead at this intersection of business and technology and how we do this is through our analytics in leadership development.
So it wasn't long ago that you were thinking about your MBA programs and research and schools to attend. We talked often at Tabor. How leadership in an elixer differentiators for MBA program so for our guests here. Can you talk about what your experience was like when considering temper and did the leadership in analytics factor into your decision making.
And this undress for me was very important. I think the as I read more articles about business. They talk about machine learning. AI and it's all about Analytics. Getting data and making business decisions out of it and I think that's what really stood out for me when I was applying a temper. It was a 2 things you know the analytical approaching class but also the accelerate leadership center. I think it was important for me to kind of build those soft skills in order to not make great just great analytical skills, but also being able to present it to senior management and convincing them.
And I think for me was the big learning my first year here and was really short of a kind of the payout. During my summer internship in being successful to drive analytical decisions, but also convincing senior management about my decisions.
Yeah, I've got a fart for that. Uhm this is Derek again coming from a small business background. I was really looking for more complexity in my work and really looking to build out my analytical tool set so that was a big reason that Tepper came up for me again and again as I look to enter the manufacturing world look to take on bigger data sets and bigger kinds of problems. It's really been great to be here at Tepper until.
Learn from people who are world class at solving great big scary hairy problems also Interestingly enough. I've had quite a bit of management experience prior to temper but part of that was part of the reason I wanted to come to temper was to build out my leadership skills. I felt like I was not methodical about the way I was being a leader. I really wanted to improve in that area and so temper was kind of in the sweet spot for Maine.
I can just to add on a little bit accelerate is really incredible program that we have here whenever I was looking at schools. It was a huge differentiator 'cause. I didn't really see that type of access to leadership coaching and other programs and another cool thing to accelerate does they'll do a program with partners as well, where you sort of. As a couple are in an interactive session that helps you map out your future together, so that's like a really great way that the acceleration.
Center is accessible to both partners and students.
In getting back to the Analytics. Just a little bit dare. You talk a lot about you know how you're able to solve these complex problems and not everyone comes from an animal the background before the NBA and that's great. We want the diversity of thought and backgrounds and experiences so just wanted to know if you recognize or aware of support. Maybe students might have that don't have that background before coming to temper and if you could talk a little bit about that. Yeah, for sure. So I would definitely encourage anyone who doesn't feel like they can.
Packet with the analytical rigor of temper that you can you know we have several formal and informal ways for people to get help you know in during the initial part of your temper experience during Basecamp. There's a math skills prep course for people who just kind of need to brush up on calculus. I know I needed that we also have a wonderful tutors and as well as most classes have reputations.
Sessions where you meet 1 on one with the TAS, but also I've just found that uhm you know, Tepper classmates are probably your best resource probably the best place to start is just you know looking for a classmate. He's got that expertise looking for the WhatsApp groups where the non quant. People get together and scratch their heads and try to come to some kind of conclusion until they finally reach out to an engineer and get him to figure it help him figure it out so I have not seen really anyone.
At Tepper, who has who felt like they couldn't figure out the quantitative part of it and everybody. I feel like it's stronger for the experience.
Well, it sounds like leadership now we sort of car did more search in pursuing your MBA here. Tapper Ann and I know that there are other factors that were part of your decision making process and with our web and are being focus on partners and families. I want to hear how that came into your decision making process and what how involved they were, and just kind of a little bit more about what that was like for you and especially with Cynthia here first hand knowledge about what that was like as well. So I don't know if you wanted to chime in first but.
I'm free to share what it was like for sure. This is Cynthia again. When we started looking at the MBA program. We visited a few schools and coming into it. I was very nervous because I know that it's a big commitment. So I did expressed to him that is that I wanted to feel included and the only school where I felt like that was here in Tepper mainly because there is a partners club program and.
At the time I was having a lot of difficulty finding housing so they did make themselves available through forum and I just went in there and I literally ask for help. And everybody was very willing to help there's also a lot of different events. I work from home, so for me. It's very easy to change out. My schedule an it's also hard to make friendship, but with the partners club.
Through the events that they have during the week on the weekend and even with other clubs. I feel that I've been very involved. As far as getting to know unless classmates and just being involved in the school in general, so that's why we picked pepper, yeah, hi this Andreas. I just wanna add. She has her own business and she actually leverage a lot of knowledge from Mark tempura classmates for her business so I think she's probably be rewarded more than I have.
Are you also like that in time made it out there experiences? I'd say that moving here? I was considering several schools and I visited all of them in terms of a family friendly city. This is West by the way in terms of a family friendly city and opportunities in terms of just weighing everything I guess I fit into the temper culture. Before I got here. I had everything in a spreadsheet and that's looking at the quality of the school.
I was looking at the quality of schools and day cares for my kids were looking at job opportunities for my wife. She's a CPA at one of the big four financial services firms so offered she could move her job or continue to work at remote, she chose remote just as nice to work from home if you can and overall. It was the student body that pretty much helped me to make my final decision. We started looking into everything we got the.
I forgot about the housing guide, yeah, we got the housing guide. Once we accepted were able to get an understanding of what exactly is the.
Best thing to do with your family and everybody has to make an individual decision. I think we both live in different neighborhoods and we did about looking at Derek can be. and I hope did not choose squirrel. Hill, despite the fact that everybody says swirl Hills and families. Really, you should sit down and have a conversation no matter where you go. But if you come here reach out to one of us as admissions ambassadors and figure out what you need and what you want.
What you want to do with your family and your partners?
Did any of you bring your partners or families with you to visit campus or whether he's welcome weekend or just a regular visit to school here did that help at all in your decision making process.
Yeah, now I'll take that one. I'm Derek again. We were lucky enough to have my wife and I were both able to come to welcome weekend we kind of like.
We're able to introduce ourselves together a lot, so if people don't remember Maine. The 1st week of classes like Oh remember you know as me, and my wife like Oh yeah, so literally without my better half. There no and it was, it was really wonderful both because there's great partners programming that really helped her feel included but we also kind of I don't know if I'm supposed to advocate this. But we skipped some of the programming. So we could kind of get a feel for Pitts burg.
You know we checked out different neighborhoods and we also went to kind of some cool restaurants in different places and we really felt that we had a good feel for Pitts Burg even just after a weekend and were a lot more excited about about moving out here.
Brian I know you're on the Phone with us, joining in remotely. But just wanted to hear as you are approaching. This decision to embark on an MBA and considering that you were going to have a new addition to your family very early on into the program. What is it been like? How is that decision process for you, your family to decide to take on this NBA with these life changes that you're going through right now.
Show my particular case who was a pleasant surprise because.
Send my wife is pregnant about 2 weeks after my acceptance letter to the program so that I need been having you know any any better, so you know in that respect me in my life sort of sat down and had a heart to heart with each other and explained you know what their concerns are how are we going to manage you know different aspects of her life between work school and?
You know, raising a newborn and I have to see that you know.
My wife is very supportive.
With respect to me fighting to come to temper and she knows that.
Entering this is full is with this huge you know bucket. List item for me. So to speak so having a supportive spouse, having a supportive network around you. Terms of family and friends and people who can help you out whenever they can I think it's been?
You know huge health and even within the Cold War, there are multiple people within our core who are in different stages of their lives and have some people are starting with family starting new jobs and were somewhere in between an everyone shares their experiences with each other and it's just you know it's been a tremendous experience to hear everyone's perspective, and everyone has been.
Really supportive along the way even the LC especially.
That's wonderful well, I'm glad to hear that you had that supported network within a hard time community within Topper here. I'm going to shift gears, a little bit. I know we talked a little bit about already with leadership and Analytics. Piece about their decisions and and how that brought even tougher and that's a great part of the academic component of the program. But you're also coming to the NBA program for growth in your ear and the temper. Masters Career Center has been a great resource for helping our students.
In their exploration recruiting also just wanna hear from whoever would like to chime in about your involvement with the MTC the mattress Career Center in terms of your job surge or internship search or how they have supported you achieving some of your own recruitment or professional goals.
This undress michella I think for me, I was doing a career switch and it was important for Maine to go to school I was going to support me to make that career switch and I think the master Career Center really stood up for me. When I was applying and they really helped me out from even start way before I even started in August. My MBA by reviewing my resume kind of doing interview prep and really to the detail the margins are incorrect in your resume to that detail and it was.
Anticipation of recruiting in the fall and I think they are very committed for your success. I think they put in a lot of time. A lot of practice from their end kind of day-to-day coaching and even if your summer internship doesn't go as planned, there. Still, there to help you for recruiting for full time so even when you graduate there. Still, there for you if you want to do another pivot in your career after you graduate so I think it's a great resource to have an something that you want to think about when you applying to MBA school.
Yeah, now I have an interesting experience. This is Derek by the way I pretty early on in the recruiting process got a big column of verbal offer from a firm, which is I later learned is not as strict as a written offer. I was on the whole for several months, with this firm and was fully anticipating that I have a job, but shortly after finals. I found out that the job, had kind of fallen through an that I.
Did not have a summer internship so I was scrambling and obviously my wife and I were just kind of really stressed out about the whole situation, but you know MCC is a great crisis helpline. So I went over to MCCS often one of my counselors and she mentioned that one of the other companies had had a situation where there someone they'd offered an internship through 4 had rejected and they were they were.
Kind of in a tight situation, we're a perfect match, you know, I was able to interview with them and I think 24 hours later. I had an offer an that's just like they just really went went to bat for me and I think that's the kind of the kind of dedication. You get from our counselors and the kind of networks that they have where they they know you they know what is available and they can really pull through for you when you have a crisis.
I don't get too specific, but I'll just say that the MCC has been extremely helpful for me. This is Wes again. I came here thinking. I would be a sponsored student not looking for a job and they told me the things that they could do in terms of helping these so learn how to network. I just wouldn't be using their job search tools that I changed to a full Hibbett for my internship and then after not being.
Kind of like Andreas not thinking it was the best fit in the role. I had going back to kind of Isoft Pivot for full time recruiting and basically every step of the way they've been more than helpful.
So there's a question that came in about partners and their support in finding a job with its Burgh Cynthia. I know you work from home and so maybe that experience moving from where we were to where you are now here in Pittsburgh and even Andreas mentioning that the support she's had to help her grow her business here. So I don't want to talk a little bit about how that's help you and then maybe twice will ask you about what that experience was like for your partner coming here to get a job. I know she's working remotely as well. But this one here, but with that support has been like whether it's.
Anything from your own partner or the empty seeing or any support at all in terms of your job being here in Pittsburgh. Now, yes, so like on that is mentioned. I do work from home. So my business is home base with a home based bakery and the way that the partners club helped me was getting my name out there and just sharing my information with people that they already knew I also saw because there is a Facebook group where you can go in and a lot of.
First year student when I was coming in, where relocating and having to find either teaching jobs or just a job in general and the group is so large that by simply posting a question for health does anybody know where I can get the best resource for a job. There was a lot of people willing to help their the year that I started. There was somebody in human resources so she was able to connect people.
From the group to different organizations and as far as just the help in general that you can get in there, whether it's a referral to a company that is hiring or just simply connecting you with other students or other people in the area was great for me and that's how I was able to find marketing help what to do with my business to get it to the next level because a lot of the partners they are connected me.
To their students and that's how it's helped me.
In terms of my wife looking for a job. She she is your own network. When were coming here decided to stay remote rather than going to the Pittsburgh Office.
But in general what we saw was she still got support whenever we ask for anything in terms of what type of accounting type roles. Could I possibly find here having a local to speak to or just somebody that's even been here for like 6 months knows way more than you would there. She was able to elicit some some of that tacit knowledge from the local pittsburghers and she goes candidly locating actually found a few rules that she considered but.
No, I will probably move again at the end of the school year, she decided to stay with her role.
But we've seen yeah, I think Andrea found a job when she got here.
Then his partner had another job when she got here, yeah, there is.
Most of it was informal networking just kind of grew pretty quickly for at least a few people, he mentioned.
Doctor Derek anything else that you wanted to enter either. I mean, my experience is a little unique is I'm from Pittsburgh. So me and my partner have been here for awhile so the transition was considerably easier for us than a lot of others of. But just having her involved, especially during the admissions process. There's a lot of things going through your head and a lot of decisions to make and just having her at welcome weekend here in other schools. She was like a really effective gut check, she knows me the best.
Everybody in the world, so she could really give me advice and saying I could see you here. I don't know if this is the right fit and she was like a huge resource to really help Maine decide on temper in general.
But yeah, as far as partner resources, she's had less need of them in a lot of ways, but she's also been more than happy to share her experience with partners coming in so she was sort of a resource. Instead, it's wonderful and even the admissions team like whoever you're working with. We live here like this has been my home for over 15 years. I know, people that live here in different industries as well as my colleagues. Do even in the part time programming part time flex where their students might be here on campus.
That are in the pits Burgh community. They work in different industries as well. They can be a valuable resource to in helping connect people and so we're all happy to help. However, we can weather through the partners club or through the students here or admissions. We're on we're all here to help each other so great questions. It came in all right. So let's talk about our clubs here temper clubs provide a rich opportunity for leadership and grow outside of the classroom as well.
And I know many of you are involved in multiple clouds, but let's start with discussion by talking about some of the activities of the partners and parents club, but I know there's a question that came in earlier about sharing a few examples of those events for partners so let's open it to partner in parents clubs that you'd like to share a little bit about some of the activities and how they are supporting our students and partners here at Tepper for me as far as the partners club for events there is a.
It's either weekly or once a month wine club. Ann it's wine with uh with an age. So where we going wine about just the experience if you're having difficulty either. You know just at work or if the classes are getting too difficult and it's a way for everybody to just connect and that is a weekly wine club. There's also a book club so every month, we get together and start a book.
And then we discuss it during the Holidays. There is also a cookie exchange and it usually depends on where we need but also since the group is based on a private Facebook group anybody is welcome to chime in an if you wanted to invite people over to your home or if you wanted to visit a restaurant or a museum. You're more than welcome to go in there and suggest the idea. And everybody's open to it, and since there's people that are working from home and then there's people that.
Have daytime jobs, the amounts of networking that you can do is really great and the opportunities are endless as far as events. You can create your own also and you are. You wanting to leadership team of the partners club. Yes, I'm on the board of the partners club and the reason that I got involved was because when I came in the first year was I was trying to find friendship and people to just network with Because I work from home, so I I talk to myself, all day.
It was a way for me to make connections and I feel very strongly about it because, like I said in the beginning. It was one of the reasons why we chose temper and the reason for the partners club is just to bring you in and bring you make you feel like you're involved so that's why I decided to be on the board is to just keep it going into hopefully inspire the new people that are coming in to join the board and just keep.
The club going you know, so we can bring more partners in and just make you feel welcome.
And there is partners programming during welcome weekend from yo there's an opportunity to get connect with other people before you even come to campus to establish some of those friendships and connections, which are I think wonderful yes, yes.
Alright parents got more or is there anything else that you would want to add we met about the partners club that you've seen in terms of programming. I mean, you mentioned the accelerating Peter Ship Center section earlier. Yeah, yeah, I mean, I can't. I can't recommend that accelerate of enough. It's a really amazing opportunity to have.
Sort of you take a sort of strength test you and your partner and the accelerate coaches sort of use. Those results to help you mold a plan for what you're going to do because it's hard enough to on your own figure out what job you want. But when trying to figure out when this right for a family and a partner as well. It it can be an added challenge. But yeah, even just like a lot of the partners cause like there's a lot of overlap and some of the.
Normal Cubs a temporary the student clubs like Tepper cares once a month. I think there's an event where both partners and students will go to a facility and Cook dinner for families who are singing Pittsburgh while their loved ones get medical treatment at the hospitals in the city so that's a great opportunity to mingle and cook a meal together and really bond.
And there's also beers actually we haven't yet it's a weekly tradition here on campus and students in any program formats that are here in Pitts Burg can participate staff and faculty and people bring their partners and their children. Obviously, the children are not consuming beer. But I mean, there's food there, not usually yes, but just want to hear about how that's also been social opportunity for you in your partners and families to interact and engage with each other.
Yeah, I mean, one thing that's also great. I don't know if other schools do this. But we don't have class on Fridays. So it's a great opportunity to have a flexible schedule or you can spend time with your partner or family and then at the end of the day you show up to the big temper family event and have a beer and some dinner and get to hang out so it's a really great way to sort of.
Schedule your we can have an ice cap put on a Friday.
Yeah, I think it's a good way to end the week. Just like Matt said. Some of us bring our kids, sometimes just so they can step on people's toes and nobody but it's surprisingly open as surprised just bring them to a very early one. They just run around and they were so happy. Maybe just because people didn't tell him to quiet down can't hear him anyway anybody else.
What's your peers and talk about parents got a little bit because there are some unique things to consider in terms of programming or support that they felt might offer you so just want to hear about your experience in the programming and support. You've received from the parents club.
I'm going to start with both equally involved as well as both Derek and I are on board coming in. We you know. We both started attending the events regularly. It's a It's a social club in general. It's kind of like the partners club. We do things in collaboration with other clubs. It's mostly social events. We plan for one formal and informal per mini so it's 8 events per year.
I'm also informal events as well. Those are just the ones with a little bit of funding from the GBA from the Graduate Business Association. It's a completely free club. We offer an event where you're still going to watch your kids. But at least you can go talk with other parents on a Friday. Saturday Sunday do it here on campus or go to children's Museum. Go to the Science Center or something like that, and you're able to use your student ID to get in a discount to a lot of those places.
Most of our focus, yeah, you know, I would echo everything West said. I think we are also were a younger club both in our average members age as well as in our time here at temper and so we've been developing a lot more of kind of what we what we wanted to see as parents coming into the temper community and that's been really exciting process. I think this was our first year that we have, like a temper parents WhatsApp.
And one of our classmates whose a student here, she had a baby last week. That's right anyway. I thought Danny was asking about croup, too, though anyway, you know, obviously like our kids all get the same diseases like I remember last year. Like all the kids got hand foot and mouth like right around the same time, and this wasn't actually even another temper student. This is another CMU student, though.
Yeah, we were going to cancel a play date between our two kids is like Oh. Hey our kids have hand foot and mouth is like Oh well. Our kids have hand foot and mouth and 2. So you wanted to select have the play date anyway. So it's great to have a resource, especially where we're all going to a lot of the same museums and parks. We might as well all go together. You know great to have people who lean on great to have people to talk to about just kind of raising kids in the burg so it's awesome.
Is there a you mentioned seeing you will exotic connection within CMU and I wasn't sure has the partners cover parents. Love interacted with anything beyond the temper scores. It just more localized here with the students and partners that are here in the MBA program or have you seen any resources that have been helpful behind here because some students might be asking about educational opportunities or resources within CMU? Is there any thought to that.
I think we run into him like we had a big partner. An parents club joint event earlier this year and there were a couple of students that were.
Like Hyatt students Earl Hines students. I think that's the strongest connection just because of the dual degree program right on the policy so we had several heine students that participate with us.
Uh it's not just exclusively NDA either. We have it's all temper. So we have MSCF computational finance and Ms of that also participates with us.
So you know that, yeah, it was interesting. We've made a couple of friends outside kind of the temper bubble. Not that there's anything wrong with that ever bubble. But it's been good to get to know some of our classmates and kind of greater CMU and there's there's something that I should use more, but definitely advertise. It's the CMU Carelink as students staff faculty can post either needs or wants that they have.
And do that all within a CMU context. So you might be able to trust somebody where you know where they go to work or go to school everyday if you're looking for a babysitter. You're relocating from somewhere distance or if you're looking for. I think most recently was on there looking for piano lessons. I didn't pull the trigger but several Fine Arts. Students that offered piano lessons and some don't even offered piano lessons in Gotham Child care and I thought.
That's probably where I'll look if we actually start with the lessons.
Alright, well, I wanna ship and talk a little bit more about Pitts Burg for students that will be moving here. You know this is a big part of your decision to and the resources we have here and we like to think that Pittsburgh is very family friendly and single friendly too. But I just wanted to know about the transition to Petsburgh and how you taking advantage of any resources or experiences that are here in this city, so whoever would like to talk about that first before you jump on it.
Yeah, I am undress michella women. My wife Cynthia moved here. I think we really use the second years that were here at the Tepper MBA. We like my wife mentioned. She put oppose we're trying to look for housing on the Facebook temper partners page. And they really reached out to several people actually when we came we came well once it welcome welcome we can. Yeah, we had actually like 3 viewings with 3 second years that were willing to show their apartment and get us connected to the landlord so I think.
It was a great experience to come here and like experiences city and then the people were very helpful, so they say it's a small city but I don't see like a small city because it has all like professional teams as every kind of amusement park everything that you want to do in a big city. It's perhaps and So what I'm gonna said the first year that we were here. We didn't have a car so for us. That was also a driving factor to choosing Pitts Burg and temper because.
The transportation here even if you don't have a vehicle is amazing compared to we were moving from Texas in Texas. You can't get in a bus anywhere. So here the transportation that CMU offers is amazing. There, shuttle buses that run. I think every few miles or maybe every half a mile even just the general transportation from the city is amazing and the city is very.
Walkable there's a lot of things that are in walkable distance. Depending you know whether you choose a certain like shady side or squirrel. Hill or wherever you live there's restaurants stores and places, that you can walk to so you don't have to have a vehicle and if that's something that you end up choosing don't be intimidated by not having a vehicle because the city is very transportation friendly.
We're talking about museums earlier how is that opportunity dying for their children and spouses to enjoy while there here in Pittsburgh or if there's anything else you wanted to add about that. I'll give a big plug for Andrew Carnegie are great benefactor, so for those of you have been to Pittsburgh, a lot of the museums are in the library's a lot of public institutions were originally funded by Andrew Carnegie so Carnegie Library.
Carnegie Museum of Natural history, Carnegie Art Museum and with your student ID you get. I think it's all of the Carnegie. Once you get free admission to and so you know you just add a family pass of that. It's not very it's pretty inexpensive for a year pass. Most of the time so we were actually trying to decide whether we wanted a zoo pass or a museum pass and I think we went with the museum pass at first 'cause. We were like Oh well. It's cold in Pitts Burg so we don't want.
You know get a zoo pass for the summer months when we're not going to be here. But we ended up getting a zoo pass 2 just because our kids love the zoo. We actually live really close to the zoo now and they do a Penguin walk so like in the winter. You can go let the Penguins out and they just like walk around. So we are big fans of the zoo. We probably go. I mean, we're really close. But we probably go like once or twice a month and there's always something fun and exciting going on there and then.
Museums you kind of never know like what? What new exhibits going to be coming through also there's some Phipps Conservatory in Schenley Park, which is really close, which is just beautiful beautiful botanical gardens. They just did a big Van Gogh exhibit where they did a bunch of floral exhibits that were themed after Vancouver Van Gogh paintings and we've just had a really fun. time I think we needed a little bit of a paradigm shift. We've lived in smaller cities largely and we didn't realize that they were like.
There's so many great museums and so many great parks in so many great things that you can do in Pittsburgh. I think it. It really is taken us a full year to like Totale. Do all of the great spots in Pittsburgh and we're still still chipping away. There's still more that we need to get to on our list.
Anything that you want to add that I think yeah for sure. I mean, Pitts Burg has a ton of green space. The surprising amount of it actually so there's there's good odds that you're within walking distance of a park if you live anywhere close to school. There are a lot of great programs through these institutions like they're reading programs for kids to the library. There recreation leagues at like the Jewish Community Center in squirrel. Hill so there's just a ton of resources in the time institutions that have been built up.
Overtime in these neighborhoods that are really friendly to families and just it's affordable here, so that's apparently the families as well. So it's just a really good city. There's the way pittsburghers work is they leave for a couple years and then when they want to start a family. They come back because it's so it's so good to sort of family here. So it's just my plug for this city and helpful with people with families because I think everybody with a kid in daycare school gets integrated into that kind of Pittsburgh.
Style upbringing so I think we're one of two transplants out of about 14 families at my daughter School.
I mean, there's been ranked backward people even let you come back. I'm not originally from here, but chose to live here and I've been here for 15 years and again love living in Pitts Burg like I'm curious if there's like everything a big city. You want, but a lot less of the headaches and the cost so it's easy to take me 15 minutes to get to work. I live within walking distance of Heinz Field, an go to sporting events in the city and my husband could take the train into downtown for free.
There's just a lot of benefits here so you haven't visited Pittsburgh highly encourage you to do so. If you're in a part time program. I know that we do have this access weekend. So Brian gets to experience a little bit about Pittsburgh, too. and I wasn't sure if you wanted to add anything as well.
Yeah, I have to say that you know every 6 weeks when we get together for access. We can you know it's kind of?
Now the cherry on Top at the end of a mini for us because one we, we all get to meet each other in person and we meeting the cohort in catch up and see how everyone is doing a lot of people bring their families during these access weekend. So I'm espouses. I've met you know children and pets. Even so, it really is a community.
German vent on Top of here during the course work and the workshops and all that and it's kind of great that we all get to converge in one location and I think that was one of the main points for me when finding the Chiefs Pepper was the amount of interaction that I would.
Have it with the rest of my court and you know nothing.
I'm not even close to let pepper offers.
Yeah, that's wonderful that yeah during the access weekend to write that people do bring their spouses partners and families. We do provide accommodations during those access weekends and it is a nice opportunity to take a little family trip to Petsburgh and have spent some time together while you're still doing those in person experiences and the partners in the families can connect as well as they are available to attend. Some of the social programming that might have, but glad to hear that you have that support and have had those experiences, too, and nice to know that pets within a part of the process is well, I didn't know that.
Like every event I've ever brought. My kids, too. There's been at least 1 dog well. I wanted to wrap up here as we're nearing the end of this webinar if there are any other additional questions that haven't been answered. Please do share in the chat box now as we have our students that are going to get ready to go to class here in a little bit. But while you're typing in any questions that you might have wanted to plug our upcoming temper talks this week. I will be heading to New York tomorrow.
And then he see on Wednesday, my colleagues are going to Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco. Palo Alto and I think I covered all of them, but I'm not positive. DC yeah, so I should remember that, so these are great opportunities. If you're not able to come visit Pitts Burg and see the school for yourself. It's a great way for us to bring temper to you as we have the admissions team then Masters Career Center staff member will be there and for some of these cities will also have someone from the accelerate leadership center team joining us as well.
So hopefully you're able to attack you can register online and hope to see you very soon. So a couple of questions did come in. Um do most partners and families relocate within Tepper students for their summer internships great question. I don't know how that went for either of you so are my family did relocate with me. We talked very seriously for a long time about whether that would make sense or not. Obviously it's a lot easier and more economical to have.
Just one person than 5 people moved to a city for summer uhm? What tip the scales for us as we were provided corporate housing and they were willing to you know corporate housing. They they are normally very accommodating a family. So you just let him know it's like Oh, you know it's impossible for us to get a 2 bedroom. They said sure so that was at least our experience, I know for a lot of.
Families an for partners different job situations necessitate different things. I think less you guys were apart for the summer. We were part for this summer. That was like Derek said, mostly financial decision. It was cheaper to just move Maine. I didn't get corporate housing. I got a moving stipend. So it was we decided to use that tend to offset the summer camp that my daughter went to at the school that she currently attends.
It just didn't make sense to look for a new school slash daycare or Cam and everything else. It made way more sense. Just have him keep sleeping in their own beds and basically doing their routine morning commute with us as we go to school and work.
Some other upcoming dates to consider as your hearing all of these webinars about the perspectives and experiences your temper. I know we do have some upcoming application deadlines. In some days to think about around 2 deadline is coming up soon January quit and I decisions are released March 4th and then round 3 is March 2nd deadline and decisions released May 4th and then grounds the war. April 9th with decisions released on May 21st.
So hopefully this webinar has helped you learn more about that upper experience that resources and support that you might have, but also your partners and spouses and Families, as well so please stay engaged with the temper community. There are NBA journey videos on our website. We encourage you to come visit campus or attend a class on line if you're not able to come visit with us. You can observe an online class. It is for the part time format. But it's the same faculty and staff teaching these classes and same content.
We do have more chats webinars. Feel free to reach out to an NBA ambassador on our website as well, and we do have those off campus events like I said temper talks. Hopefully it is sitting here you. Feel free to stay in touch with us here in admissions or contact information is on this slide here as well as the partners club impairments club email addresses, so thank you again for spending time with us to learn about the difference here at Topper with our partners in families and we wish you the best of luck in your MBA journey.
